ABOUT MINISTRY OF CULTURE, YOUTH AND SPORT
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in Guyana has the responsibility to formulate a comprehensive framework for positive youth development in partnership with local, regional and international stakeholders.
In 2014 Guyana developed a draft National Youth Policy that represents a mainstreamed and integrated policy response to youth transition phases and recommends a coordinated and networked approach to matters related to adolescent and youth in Guyana. Implementing the Youth Policy requires the development of a harmonized National Youth Policy Action Plan that facilitates cross-sector investment and institutional support for youth development in Guyana.
THE VOLUNTEER'S ROLE
This placement calls for a curriculum developer to review undergraduate courses in the creative arts and suggest revisions and improvements based on international requirements.
The volunteer will review and help re-design diploma-level courses in the following creative arts departments:
The School of Music
The School of Dance
The School of Media Arts
The School of Creative writing
The School of Drama
The School of Fine Arts
In addition, the volunteer will be asked to:
Examine and review courses in Music
Examine and review courses in Dance
Examine and review courses in Drama
Examine and review courses in Art and Creative Writing
Develop courses in Media Arts
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-graduate degree in Creative Arts or related discipline.
DESIRABLE ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Post-graduate degree in the field of Education
Ability to review curricula and offer suggestions for refinement, improvement
ESSENTIAL PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND/COMPETENCIES:
Experience in curriculum development
Experience in programme review
Experience in Education Programming in the Arts
DESIRABLE PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND/COMPETENCIES:
Ability to suggest curricula in media arts and film.
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad.
This includes:
Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)
Travel and accommodation costs associated with pre-departure training
Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency)
Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and comprehensive health insurance
Accommodation while overseas
A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
Quarterly payments to support you in your placement
Modest support for accompanying partners
For placements requiring Spanish language, substantive in-country language training is provided for those who already have intermediate knowledge
