Paralegal II

Scope of the project:

The Paralegal will provide paralegal support to the National Legal Department, the Department's external and internal clients, and outside counsel.

Perform paralegal duties under supervision of attorneys

Requirements:

Discretion, self-starter, takes initiative

3 - 5+ years related experience to include completion of a paralegal training program

Demonstrated decision making skills in editing documents, routing customer inquiries appropriately or answering customer questions. Examines a range of options and their implications before deciding on a course of action or recommendation.

Demonstrated ability to provide continuous improvement by thinking outside of the box .

Demonstrated results orientation. 

Skilled in understanding, clarifying, questioning and problem-solving issues relating to work assignments

Ability to perform a variety of challenging tasks under time constraints and strict deadlines.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Full use and understanding of standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques pertinent to the paralegal field.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with all levels of management internal/external.

Strong organization and planning abilities and demonstrated attention to detail.

Significant and demonstrated ability to perform analysis and legal research to identify and clarify issues.

Duties:

Independently reviews and drafts correspondence, reports, checklists, and other legal tools and documents based on research of applicable laws and regulations and or existing legal documents prepared by attorneys.

Researches and analyzes applicable state and federal statutes and regulations, case law and regulatory agency rulings in conjunction with facts. 

Reviews applicable laws to determine compliance requirements. 

Researches and analyzes legal problems and draft legal memoranda outlining applicable authorities and recommends possible solutions and strategies.

Compiles, reviews, summarizes and analyzes data and facts regarding Program operations and other information as needed.

Helps to establish and maintain a system to organize and track requests for legal advice and maintains electronic database to organize legal advice; prepares draft answers for attorneys to questions based on previous legal advice, and assists attorneys in keeping track of open matters.

Organizes a variety of documents and files, including medical staff litigation documents and business records.

Coordinates activities among the offices of the Legal Department, facility medical legal staff, national compliance offices, and other attorneys and staff.

Performs such other duties as may be required.

Works to identify root causes of problems.

Effectively communicates any conflicts in customer or Team  needs, scheduling, or prioritization of work to Team members.

Applies organization's institutional knowledge to problem solving and works efficiently with a variety of departments and individuals both within the organization and outside organizations.

Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.

Demonstrates excellent problem solving skills and consideration of alternatives.

Seeks out opportunities for communicating relevant research, information, results, and new developments in designated area of practice to appropriate colleagues and attorneys.

Offers assistance to other members of the Team and Legal Department.
