We are currently recruiting a contract Corporate Affairs/Government Affairs Manager for our global pharma client based in Surrey. This role is part of their UK Corporate Affairs team. This team works across the their UK Divisions to lead and coordinate our public affairs priorities and engagement with national stakeholders across the country as well as to build and defend their corporate reputation. The team works on a wide variety of projects, for example from supporting individual Divisions with key market access challenges. Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs, this role will focus on Corporate and Cross-Divisional Public Affairs. Key internal partners will include senior management, public affairs and other colleagues from across the Group in the UK and EU presence. Key audiences include Government (DH, BIS, HMT, Cabinet Office, Number 10 etc.), NHS, Industry Associations, think tanks, patient groups, professional groups and other stakeholders involved in influencing policy. This is a highly visible role that will require a proactive approach to public affairs as well as the ability to manage agency activity.

As such, you will demonstrate the following:

* Significant experience in corporate affairs and/or government relations or public policy
* A solid grounding in UK political processes
* The ability to demonstrate experience of operating in a commercial environment but an appreciation of the positive impact that the business will have both on patient care and also on wider society

This position will contribute to the development and execution of the UK-wide Corporate Affairs strategy for our client, as well as lead on the development and implement corporate affairs initiatives which support the business objectives for the group across the UK. You will also facilitate effective trade association engagement to help achieve UK business objectives.

This position is offered on a day rate contract basis, initially until the end of December 2014. part time will be considered, on a minimum of 2 days per week.

Major accountabilities:

* Working with the Head of Corporate Affairs:
o To lead on selected assigned public affairs projects
o Developing positions and messaging
o Identifying and mapping key stakeholders
o Effectively engaging and influencing for measurable policy change outcomes
o Aimed at delivering more favourable business environment in the UK
* Contribute to the UK-wide government affairs strategy, working closely with the devolved nations Government Affairs managers to ensure differences and synergies between the four nations are reflected appropriately
* Coordinate Government consultations to articulate policy positions which support our client's business objectives
* Act as an internal champion for the Corporate Affairs team, supporting initiatives to improve understanding and awareness of policy and corporate affairs work

Experience/qualifications

* A track-record of successful management of corporate affairs projects, likely to have been delivered in:
o A UK corporation's public affairs or communications department
o A public affairs, PR or communications agency
o An industry association
o Central or local Government (eg press officer, policy official etc.)
* Policy and campaigning:
o Experience of translating 'business' needs and priorities into policy positions, negotiation with internal stakeholders in developing these
o Experience of working collaboratively with external stakeholders to develop common policy positions, eg through industry association working groups etc.
o Familiar with Whitehall and Westminster in terms of workings of Government departments (preferably, DH and BIS), interactions between ministers and officials etc.
o Experience of working with the devolved nations and the EU would be desirable
