MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in life sciences, statistics or IT

Strong interest in neurosciences and/or pharmaceutical research and development

BACKGROUND

An interest in neuroscience or biology is essential as are sound statistical skills.

A recent graduate from a university with a strong neuroscience department would be appropriate and some post-grad work experience is highly desirable

Recording research and looking for markers and activity from 300 animals, the candidates main role is to process the data and help in setting up the experiment protocols, experiment design and collect the data - not expected to handle animals, just processing data by feeding information to the biologists

Need to understand the experiment design and help set it up

Quality control and data management

Data mining, developing software to help management processes, collaborate with engineering and biology

IT savvy - not just standard office packages but need to know some programming or have a desire to learn quickly

Ability to write standard queries in SQL (any database) is essential

Joining a team of 5 and providing maternity cover for 1 year. Supporting a wider team and working closely with a far larger community

Working within Vivo Pharmacology and Discovery Research the successful candidate will apply skills in biology, statistics and IT to convert the raw data into scientific knowledge. This involves data analysis, quality control, interpretation and communication. The job offers considerable scope for exploratory data mining, software application development and cross functional collaboration (eg, Translational Medicine, Statistics and Engineering) depending on the candidate's talents and interests.

To succeed in this role you will be a highly motivated, with a strong interest in physiology and behaviour. As well as having excellent research and communication skills, you will be a team player with a desire to contribute to the discovery and development of novel drugs.
