Role Overview

This is an OUTSTANDING opportunity to join Steria on part of a once in a generation change in financial services regulation and shape the workings of the financial sector at a time of considerable change and experience a unique insight in to the integration of Consumer Credit into the FCA's regulatory regime. The FCA assumed responsibility for the regulation of Consumer Credit from the OFT from 1 April 2014 and we are offering opportunities to join a dedicated team of professionals to be at the forefront of the integration of Consumer Credit firms into the FCA. The Authorisations Division is responsible for the gateway into financial regulation through effective assessment and processing of: Applications for FCA authorisation, variation of permissions, cancellations and approved persons; Applications in respect of change in control, collective investment scheme authorisation and waivers; Passport notifications and transfers of business; and Registration of mutual societies We employ a risk based decision making process to ensure the appropriate regulatory decision is taken. Applications are dealt with across both retail and wholesale businesses and for all sizes of firms.

What does this job involve? We are looking for experience within Consumer Regulated Market or the Credit Industry/Banking, to work a minimum of 3 full Days with the flexibility to work more and manage and process a range of routine cases, working with the FCA rules and procedures and escalating exceptions through the FCA's allocated governance channels. This must be while adopting a fair and efficient process and providing good service.

You will be:

Responsible for a portfolio of Consumer Credit authorisation applications.

" Ensure decisions on your cases are taken in line with the regulatory framework, the FCA's objectives, our risk appetite and agreed service standards.

" Escalate issues and assess and challenge a firm's business model viability and assess the governance structure, systems and controls, products and sales processes that are proposed.

" Deliver difficult messages where we judge that a firm is unlikely to meet the threshold conditions for approval or our fit and proper test, with a view either to them withdrawing or being managed through our refusal process using the appropriate regulatory committee.

" Manage relationships including those with stakeholders.

" Work closely with the firm until a decision is made on an application

" This role also requires building and managing effective relationships with many other colleagues in the FCA and PRA, including Supervision, Policy and Sector Teams.

" Successful applicants will need to pass a 2 week Training course followed by a one month probation period.

Essential skillsGood regulatory knowledge and good general understanding of a wide range of business models. The ability to make good risk-based decisions on the available information. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Manage stakeholders (internal and external) as well as the ability to build good relationships. Good case management and strong analytical skills Confidence to present recommendations to senior FCA committees.
