Consultant in Acute Medicine

Dream Medical are currently assisting a Foundation Trust in the North West of England who are seeking a UK experienced Consultant in Acute Medicine.

Dream Medical are looking to recruit a consultant in acute medicine. The successful candidate will be a full time appointment to Acute Medicine and will be expected to integrate within the team of existing consultants in order to provide a complete and high quality, Acute Medicine service.

The post holder will be accountable to the Clinical Director for ED, Assessment and Acute Medicine.

The team currently consists of four Consultants, supported by an experienced team of nursing, medical staff, Therapy and pharmacy services, and Advanced Nurse Practitioners for Acute Medicine. This already strong team will no doubt ease the transition into a new work place.

The Acute Medical ward you will be working on consists of 30 beds which is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including Advanced Nurse Practitioners, experienced nursing staff, physiotherapy, and pharmacy services. Daily ward rounds occur each morning on AMU, with a medical and nursing team handover each morning. Out of hours medical cover is provided by the medical registrar, and the on-call consultant. An on-call consultant ward round starts at 7pm every evening after a short handover from the acute medical consultant at 6.45pm. In addition there is an AMU ward round in the morning at weekends.

The appointee will be responsible for the care of:-

•All patients referred by their GP.
•All patients referred by the Emergency Medicine Department
•All patients referred by internal specialities.
•Management of patients on the allocated wards (AMU, EAU) at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
•Provide senior cover for the Ambulatory care unit

•Taking part in the teaching for SHOs and F2s and SpRs
•Develop Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Speciality Doctor
•Supervising Audit projects
•Attend weekly radiology meetings
•Attend monthly Morbidity & Mortality/Clinical Governance Meeting
•Development and promotion of evidence based practice and guidelines
•Active contribution to the departmental Clinical Governance structure
•Multi-disciplinary team working
•Relevant participation in management
•Active participation in the development of the new acute medicine service model and pathways
•Other appropriate duties and responsibilities

The Salary on offer is highly competitive & this is negotiable upon interview acceptance.

To apply for this position you must hold full registration with the GMC & have a CCT in acute medicine, or general medicine with a speciality interest.

You must also have MRCP and ALS too.
