Projektbeschreibung

Dream Medical are currently in need of a UK experienced Consultant in A&E for a long term contract in the East of England.

The position is due to start ASAP but applications will be considered for a January/February start if needs be.

The department in question is situated at the front of the hospital. It is classed as a major unit and sees around 58,000 new patients per annum. The department was purpose built and utilises electronic patient tracking to manage patient flow. The department benefits from excellent clinical pathology, haematology and microbiology services and radiology using the Agfa Impax PACS system. The Department has implemented an electronic records system in 2013 in a step towards becoming paperless and increasing efficiency. There is a well-equipped 4 bed resuscitation area, 13 major cubicle spaces including two rooms plus a see and treat assessment area. Currently planning is in progress to develop and modernise the department and to provide an improved minors injury/ illness areas for streaming this group of patients.
Paediatric patients make up around 20% of the workload. In addition, part of the previous interim reorganisation of the department there has been an improvement in the waiting and assessment facilities we offer for children. The department is close to the Radiology department and CT scanner suite.

Observational medicine is important to the current consultant team and we firmly believe that there is a role for the trust to engage in the development of a suitably sized facility for observational medicine. Previously, our 3 bedded unit' demonstrated great efficiency in turnaround and admission avoidance however with rising pressures on the department this area has been relocated within the medical short stay bed complement of the service line to allow for greater assessment space within the emergency department. It is expected future development will further expand and extend the size and remit of the ward as all the current Emergency Medicine consultants consider it to be an important part of their role in addition to assisting with admission avoidance. Close links with the in house team of rapid assessment nurses ensure a rapid patient turnover in the department which overall enhances the patient experience. The Emergency Department maintains close links with the medical/ surgical and paediatric assessment facilities to ensure efficiency of the patient journey and consistent achievement of the 95% 4 hour journey time target.

Emergency Department Services are within the Emergency Care division. The already excellent working relationships with the department of Critical care will be enhanced with opportunities for integrated working with intensive and high dependency care services.

The department sees the full range of Emergency patients and covers a large geographic area and a population of around 220,000 people. The department submits Audit data to TARN and have shown a survival rate for our most seriously injured patients which is comparable to most of the major teaching hospitals. There are several military bases in the area, which can add to the workload. The hospital has a fully operational floodlit Helipad which provides easy access to emergency care for many of our patients who are injured / fall ill in the more remote areas of the region.
