Construction Interface Engineer (Subs)

Construction Interface Engineers (x4) required to work on Substation projects in the South of England. Preferred locations are for London and the South East.
These are Site Engineer roles working as the Interface to the Principal Contractor.

Complete Description

Job Purpose:
The Construction Interface Engineer (CIE) will enact the role of Engineers Representative interfacing with the Principal Contractors Site Manager/Supervisor, to ensure that site based activities are efficiently managed in accordance with policies and procedures.

The CIE is effecting the role of a Site Engineer. Although an understanding of SHEQ is required, these roles are for Site Engineers/Site Managers.

Experience Required:

General experience
Formal training in the following areas:
Health and Safety at Work Act
Construction Health & Safety,
CDM Regulations,
Risk Assessment and Method Statements
Environmental, Duty of Care and Waste Management,
HSG47 (desirable)
GS6 (desirable)
Specific experience required for this role
Basic Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
Awareness of Contract management within fixed price and target cost contracts.
Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies.
Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
Solid experience of project site management capability and working to deadlines and in a contracting environment.
Familiar with National Grid's Basic Safety Rules
Hold 'Person' and Substations 'BESC' Authorisation (essential).
Competent Person (desirable)
TP144 training will be provided but is desirable if available.
NEC Contract knowledge is desired to an extent.

Minimum ONC/HND or equivalent in relevant engineering discipline (essential)

Main Interfaces:

National Grid Project Delivery staff
PC Staff and Operatives

Key Tasks:

Act on behalf of the CDMC to ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is pro-active in discharging (both accountable and responsible) their duties under the CDM regulations, not least in managing all SHESQ aspects of the construction based activities.
SHESQ Sensible Monitoring - Assure the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements in an oversight capacity.
Provide oversight to ensure that regular PC Site Progress Meetings are being held and minutes of these meetings are being progresses to assure that all key stakeholders are fully engaged
Inspect, approve or reject materials and workmanship.
Notify PC/Contractor of defects.
Undertake the role of Engineer's representative for sensible monitoring of site construction activities and assure that an effective PC H&SMS is in place for the site.
Ensure that a PC documentation management system is established and maintained on site
Track and escalate any deviations/change from the agreed Work Instruction through to the Project Engineer.
Undertake the role of Supervisor as defined/delegated within the relevant AAA/EPC contract.

Additional Information (eg special terms, need to travel, notice period (if not standard 4 weeks):
The role of the CIE may necessitate multiple site coverage on a national basis (England & Wales). This will depend on the extent and nature of the project work undertaken.

The roles are to be initially aligned to London and the South.

The roles are for M&E Construction Interface Engineers.
