Compliance Contractor

A global market leader in safety systems for the Oil & Gas industry. The Process Safety Technology group specializes in the development of complex safety and control system products. The products are designed using innovative 'fault-tolerant' and 'failsafe' architectures and must conform to exacting safety standards for Functional Safety (IEC 61508), Hazardous Areas (ATEX/IECEx) and other statutory and regulatory requirements as needed. The group is expanding and looking for a compliance engineer to join their requirements and certification team.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide knowledge and guidance to drive certification of the group's products, primarily in relation to functional safety and hazardous areas.

Build and maintain relationships with external assessors, certification bodies and test houses, requiring occasional travel.

Be a focal point between development engineers, project managers, product management and external assessors to ensure compliance.

Study the detail of electronic designs to assess their fault tolerance and calculate their probability of failure on demand.

Participate in design reviews with a requirement to ask the questions Why? and What if? , and challenge design assumptions to ensure compliance

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Proven record in product regulatory compliance in relation to functional safety and/or hazardous areas.

Strong engineering background with desire to gain knowledge of hardware, firmware and mechanical design. Strong academic ability to assimilate large amounts of information from different sources, to be able to extract and present the key design requirements.

Strong personality to exert influence and challenge others to ensure that designs are executed against requirements. Methodical approach to work to achieve high quality and completion on time.

Ability to retain large amounts of information when switching between 2 or 3 projects. Research experience may be advantageous.
