This is a role working within a team that manages the sixteen passenger rail franchise operators. The role will be to lead the relationship with one of the operators and support commercial work on interfaces with major projects.

The job holder will be required to undertake the following duties and responsibilities:
*Lead on contractual negotiations and variations;
*Address day-to-day commercial issues
*Brief Ministers on matters arising from contracted or programmed franchise operation,
*Contribute to work supporting the Rail Franchising Programme,
*Manage and mitigate any financial claims related to contractual variations.
*Protect and promote the long term value of franchises
*Provide input to commercial negotiations for Departmental capital investment schemes such as the Thameslink programme.
*Manage the relationship with internal promoters of major schemes, train operators, and Network Rail, and provide commercial advice and support to enable successful delivery of the schemes and realisation of their business cases.
*Undertake ad-hoc workstreams within the Directorate
