Commercial Manager for Quantity Surveying Department.

My client specialises in the design, build, optimisation and on-going management of data centres.

Due to the rapid evolution of the business they now seek a Commercial Manager with excellent Quantity Surveying/Surveyor experience to rebuild their small commercial team. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the review, improvement and documentation of QS processes in order to ensure their consistent and accurate implementation within their internal and outsourced team.

The role may initially include a hands-on Quantity Surveying assignment on some of the company's key accounts. The role also brings with it full responsibility for the design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of all supply chain activities primarily for the Construction and Maintenance of Data Centres.

The main responsibilities for the role are listed below and you will have responsibility for Building and Management of QS team, Commercial Negotiation, and Supply Chain Management.

- Responsibility for building and managing a team of senior and junior quantity surveyors.
- Reviewing future project demands within a flexible strategy of blending internal and outsourced surveying resource
- Review and improvement of all post contract commercial and procurement systems and procedures.
- Pro-active work with pre-sales to help provide commercial advice to help secure tender success,assisting team with preparation and cost analysis for tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
- Responsibility for risk management,commencing with review and briefing out of key aspects of the Contract to the Project team and providing proactive advice in respect of conditions of contracts, onerous terms, potential liabilities.
- Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks and proactively managing those risks.
- Forecast and management of consolidated cash flow following review and agreement of QS project forecast in a timely and accurate manner.
- Analysing cost outcomes and writing detailed progress reports.

The successful candidate should expect to be constantly communicating and negotiating with clients or business associates. They will work to strategically expand, preserve or improve the company's procedures,standards or policies while sticking to business edicts and regulatory guidelines.

This role will be located at the clients Head Office in the Gatwick Region, West Sussex but the candidate will need to travel regularly to client sites or supplier offices across the UK.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE RELEVANT TO THE ROLE:

-Industry experience in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Structural engineering projects
-Experience with SCM/Procurement of Large plant equipment
-Expert Quantity Surveying
-Demonstrable experience of managing and delivering improvements from a varied supply chain
-Knowledge of various forms of conditions of contract including NEC, JCT, ACE

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS RELEVANT TO THE ROLE:

-Academic qualification (HND, degree or similar )
-Complete understanding of applicable standards and regulations
-RICS - Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors; or similar qualification
-15 years post graduate experience in relevant discipline and sector
