COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR - UTILITIES, MAJOR UK PLC

This is a senior position for an individual with ambition and the commercial, financial and business acumen to work with operational and functional colleagues to successfully develop commercial opportunities across the contracts to achieve and exceed profitability and cash targets.

The individual needs to command respect with clients, colleagues and staff and have the ability to successfully lead, influence and communicate with others.

Ability to operate successfully in a commercial environment and previous experience of managing commercial mechanisms across multiple contracts is necessary. Commercial awareness is required to assess margin, risk and cashflow in addition to supporting the finance function to produce budgets and accounts.

The individual needs to have credibility with JV partners, main contractors and consultants as having the relevant experience to manage the commercial aspects of complex projects in both the gas and water sectors.

ROLE PURPOSE

To lead the commercial function on contracts located in the south of England and in the provision of central commercial services to ensure compliance with policy and confidence in commercial and financial reporting.

REMIT/DIMENSIONS

FINANCIAL: c. £80m per annum, across 6 client contracts.

ORGANISATIONAL: Line management of all commercial staff involved in the contracts and provided the central commercial services.

AS A MEMBER OF THE COMMERCIAL LEADERSHIP TEAM, contribute to the development and implementation of the Gas & Water commercial strategy and action plan

AS A SENIOR MEMBER OF STAFF:

- Ensure a personal relentless focus on Zero Harm and in line with the Gas & Water Sustainability Roadmap, get involved in the delivery of positive economic, social and environmental activities
- Build and inspire the commercial staff in your team

- Control costs and effectively manage budgets
- Ensure the team complies with all Regulations and Company Policies & Processes
- Ensure that Company Minimal Commercial Expectations are applied consistently across your area of responsibility
- Provide commercial assurance through the provision of margin confidence, commercial risk and cashflow analysis. Work with Financial Function to report performance accurately.
- Manage disputes requesting legal support where required.
- Responsible for the quality and approach towards work winning, including commercial margins, estimating principles and practice
- Review and assess the liquidity and longevity of customer and supply chain relationships to meet and exceed profitability targets.
- Manage commercial mechanisms including contracts, bonds and warranties.
- Responsibility for the creation of commercial opportunity and value within the contracts.
