CLINICAL LAB TECH- CYTOGENETICS needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in CARLSBAD, CA

THE BIG PICTURE - TOP SKILLS YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

- Hands-on experience in cell culture and aseptic technique

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- Duties include pre-analytic laboratory work, such as establishing short-term cultures of human blood and bone marrow specimens and/or preparing slides for later cytogenetic (Chromosome analysis and/or FISH) analyses of neoplastic disorders, and quality assurance tasks.
- Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
- Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, perform instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and must either correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor or Manager, Technical Supervisor, or Director.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Perform high complexity pre-analytical testing only under onsite, direct supervision of a qualified General Supervisor.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- Adhere to established turn-around-times while maintaining the highest quality of test results and the most efficient use of resources.
- Assure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Assist in providing consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established either by the Laboratory Director or Technical Supervisor.
- May be required to train new personnel with regard to technical and operational procedures.
- May be required to assist with performing competency assessment of testing personnel.
- Conform to all company policies and procedures and maintain a business-like, professional attitude at all times.
- Additional responsibilities for non-licensed laboratory personnel:
- Maintain flexibility with regard to work schedule including section assignment, daily work shift and days of the week as determined by business need.
- Prepare and store reagents and culture media.
- Transcribe results that have been previously recorded, either manually by a physician or licensed personnel, or automatically by a testing instrument.
- Route all slides to a licensed technologist for review and reporting.
- Load stained slides into GSL trays for scanner run.
- Perform QC check after GSL loaded.
- Archive slides.
- Establish short-term cultures of human peripheral blood, bone marrow or other specimen types.
- Deliver harvested tubes to in-house lab or package tubes for send out to partner labs, generating proper notifications.
- Prepare slides from harvested cell pellets, age and stain slides for chromosome analysis.
- Prepare heme and solid tissue slides for FISH analysis.
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear and operate a computer.

BONUS POINTS! OTHERWISE KNOWN AS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience in a clinical lab and hands-on experience in cell culture and aseptic technique is preferred, but not required.
- ability to evaluate test results in terms of laboratory control and methods
- ability to analyze, verify and manipulate clinical and/or laboratory data
- skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications
