CI Architecture Design Engineer

A leading defence client has a new requirement for a CI Architecture Design Engineer for an initial period of 6 months. Please note that due to the nature of this position, candidates must be eligible to gain a BPSS security clearance.

Job Description

Perform design activities for the Common Infrastructure Architecture as part of the Combat System (CS) to be installed on UK Submarines.

This will include:

- Support the definition and delivery of a coherent, cost effective and documented Common Infrastructure Design in accordance with the overall integrated programme.
- Support specification and management of Network Common Functions requirements and ensure that these are defined and documented to support the letting of subsystem contracts.
- Support the CS Network Specification and ensure that this is documented to support the letting of subsystem contracts.
- Support production and maintenance of Service Definitions and the Common Information Model.
- Support production of Infrastructure Configuration Definitions.
- Contribute to the CS Design Control and progress reporting meetings as required.
- Support the production of Parts, Cable and eBOM data in accordance with the Successor Maturity Management Plan and integrated Master Schedule (IMS).
- Provide design input addressing queries assisting in the delivery of Infrastructure components to inline with the published programme.
- Liaise with both internal and external customers as required ensuring that their requirements are adequately supported and that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate and agreed.
- Liaison with CS Design Team Leaders/Members, Technical Authorities, MoD customers, Shipbuilder and Suppliers to agree system design solutions, coherent with the Combat System Design.
- Preparation for & presentation at CS Design Reviews.
- Specific tasks on the CCS V-Class Roll Out programme including:
- Update CCSv3.4 Common Infrastructure SSDD
- Support CCSv3.4 Phase 1 Sonar SSDD and STR.
- Perform system requirements analysis, subsystem design & subsystem requirements development for the Common Infrastructure Subsystems.
- Update the CCSv3.4 Common Infrastructure SubSystem Design Description (SSDD).
- Support update of the CCSv3.4 Phase 1 Sonar SSDD.
- Support update of the CCSv3.4 Command SSDD.

Skills/Qualifications:

- Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Engineering or an appropriate related discipline
- Extensive knowledge & experience of network architecture, network protocols and design, and software design & development.
- Self-motivation, enthusiasm for problem solving, and strong written & verbal communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of requirements management and acceptance.
- Extensive experience of complex system design and qualification.
- Extensive experience of defining technical requirements.

Desirable:

- Experience of liaison with customers and suppliers.
- Experience of Systems Engineering in a Naval Platform arena (Submarines/Surface Ships).
- Knowledge of network and high performance processing systems design.
