Child Care Aide - Early Learning Centers

Basic Function:

Perform, under supervision, services and duties necessary to provide total care for children from infants through 6th grade, depending on the program, of various cultural and economic backgrounds; to enhance childrens development and to provide a safe place for children to engage in activities.

Responsibilities:

Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.

Maintain an atmosphere of care, comfort, and safety for children who attend the early learning center.

Organize and distribute meals and snacks.

Distribute appropriate toys, games and art supplies to children. Monitor usage. Clean up after children as assigned or as necessary.

Plan and implement a variety of activities.

Monitor attendance and maintain a daily sign-in sheet as needed.

Monitor children at lunch, field trips, during activities, or other event situations as necessary.

Communicate with parents.

Be aware of all special needs and concerns of children.

Assist in care, preparation and cleaning of program equipment. Monitor equipment and materials usage.

Perform other duties as assigned or directed.

Combination of experience and education normally represented by a High School diploma and from six months to one year of related experience.

Current certification in First Aid and CPR (infant, child and adult), Child Abuse Recognition, and Communicable Disease Recognition or attained within six (6) months from date of hire.

Must complete 15 hours of training a year up to 45 hours acquired. An additional 4 hours in language and literacy is required each year thereafter.

Physical examination by a licensed physician required.

Must be able to effectively and productively work with people of very diverse economic, cultural and administrative backgrounds.

Must be well organized, detail oriented and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Must have a good working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software.

Must have competent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds required.

Must be able to actively interact with preschool children by being able to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat and reach above head.
