A global multinational finance company are currently looking for a Chief Accountant to be based in Warsaw, Poland. The Accounting team in Warsaw comprises a team of 5 with responsibility for all financial reporting and tax compliance for Polska/Poland. The team is responsible for the preparation of statutory accounts, month end reporting, preparation of submissions to the US Corporate Accounting team, preparation of Corporation Tax and VAT returns, regulatory reporting, and technical accounting advice to the local business.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

- Managing and leading a team of five accountants on a day to day basis including issue resolution, setting of team priorities, and coaching and motivating the team.
- Planning and co-ordination of the local month end close process for the Poland/Polska side of the business to ensure that all local and Corporate reporting deadlines are met
- Ensure that statutory accounts and tax returns for Poland/Polska are prepared and filed on a timely basis within statutory and regulatory deadlines.
- Timely and accurate delivery of monthly and quarterly balance sheet and P
- Ensure all regulatory and capital adequacy returns are submitted on time to the Polish National Bank;
- Review and ownership of all balance sheet and P
- Partner with the Shared Services teams globally to ensure that any reconciliations or reporting are performed on a timely basis and in accordance with corporate policy
- Provide accounting advice to the business in respect of new product and business proposals
- Ensure that the Accounting team can support new business initiatives and that the impact on statutory, tax, and Corporate reporting is fully considered and planned for.
- Work with the business and tax teams to ensure that any costs incurred on behalf of other group entities are re-charged in accordance with group policy and appropriate transfer pricing documentation is in place
- Investigation and resolution of technical accounting issues
- Participate and often lead calls with the US Corporate Accounting team or regional EMEA Accounting and Tax teams in EMEA

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

- At least 10+ years experience in a similar reporting role within a large corporate or accounting firm
- Good understanding of accounting principles, Polish GAAP and Polish Companies Law requirements
- US GAAP knowledge would be advantageous but not essential
- Some exposure and experience of tax compliance, either Corporation Tax or VAT
- Fluent in English, both spoken and written
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables to tight deadlines
- Previous experience with leading and managing a team
- Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organisation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience
- Polish accounting qualification
