Drilling Fluid Chemist

A chemist is required to take up a new role within a major Drilling Fluids Comapny based in Aberdeen.

The role will focus on formulation, mixing and testing of drilling fluids along with project management and working with non standard procedures.

Applicants will be considered from any chemist role, not simply Petro-Chemical.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Manage simple projects including final report.
* Ensure that any new products / systems developed are registered in PAF
* Perform required laboratory tests to API standards; ensure that all data are accurately measured and reported in a timely manner. Maintain appropriate lab records, including lab books.
* Ensure laboratory work is carried out in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
* Work tidily and with due consideration for others at all times.
* Ensure that adequate stock levels for samples, spares and laboratory consumables are maintained.
* Conform to company's QHSE Policies and Procedures.
* Maintain an active role in the identification and reporting of hazards, non-conformances and opportunities for improvement and implementation of improvements.
* Communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
* Maintain an active role in training and calibration.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Duties shall include, but not be limited to, the following

* Formulate, mix and test drilling fluids as required using standard lab procedures.
* Perform non-standard procedures as required per existing competency guidelines.
* Develop new laboratory procedures with associated risk analysis as required
* Maintain a clear and accurate record of measured data; present data in an appropriate format and communicate it to the appropriate personnel.
* Interpret data and plan future work
* Clean and maintain laboratory equipment including calibration if required.
* Keep the laboratory work area clean and tidy - maintain good house keeping practices.
* Order laboratory consumables, chemicals and other materials if required.
* Perform COSHH assessments on new samples, log them into the database and label as required.
* Ensure outgoing samples are logged and are correctly packaged and labelled.
* Report any general or laboratory hazards immediately and enter details into the QHSE reporting software (QUEST).
* Identify service quality issues and opportunities for improvement and report through QUEST.
* Participate in all safety meetings and mandatory safety training; serve as LPT Member if assigned.
* Participate in weekend duty roster and out-of-hours working as reasonably requested by line management and when appropriate competency requirements are met.
* Develop proficiency in company products and drilling and completion fluid technology.
* Deputise for senior colleagues when required.
* Conduct other tasks as reasonably requested by line management.
