POSITION SUMMARY:

Under supervision, the Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant provides bio-psycho-social assessments, patient education and orientation, family counseling and education and patient counseling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA WITH 40 hours of chemical dependency-specific education in the following areas: addiction knowledge, treatment knowledge, professionalism, evaluation, service coordination, documentation, individual counseling, group counseling.

REQUIRED LENGTH AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE: Prefer work or internship experience in a chemical dependency treatment setting.

REQUIRED LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRY: Requires a CDCA Certificate from the State of Ohio.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assists with screening and intake services.
- Completes assessments
- Meets utilization review requirements
- Develops treatment plans utilizing assessment data.
- Facilitates group sessions and meetings, using audio-visual aids.
- Utilizes thorough knowledge of self-help groups.
- Presents education sessions to patients and families.
- Must be proficient in communications, using extensive verbal communication skills for establishing rapport with patients and their families.
- Manages a caseload of clients, dealing with issues such as substance abuse, dual diagnosis, relapse issues, etc. Individualizes treatment plans.
- Attends weekly staffing meetings to present case summaries.
- Enters assessment data, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, etc. accurately into Electronic Medical Record.
- Completes discharge planning including follow-up treatment to appropriate community resources.
- Prepared to interact with unexpected and impulsive behaviors of patients as needed.
- Ability to function in a fast paced and demanding environment by prioritizing and multi-tasking is essential, as is attention to detail.
- Abides by Professional Code of Ethics.
- Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Seeks to improve the practice of behavioral health care utilizing results of patient satisfaction surveys.
- CPR Certification and Physical Crisis Intervention (PCI) training is required.
- Completes mandatory in-services and meets continuing education re-licensure requirements applicable to this position.
- Adheres to all hospital and department policies and procedures.
