ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

As the senior professionally-qualified accountant and functional head of the finance profession, the Chief Accountant performs a pivotal role in the Command. Working to the Director of Resources and Policy and Deputy Director of Resources (both Senior Civil Servants), the Chief Accountant's key responsibilities include:

- forecasting and managing in-year finances effectively, ensuring that the Command lives within its c. £4.3 billion annual budget; that spending is in line with the Department's financial control framework; and that the Command produces accurate accounts within Departmental and National Audit Office deadlines;
- leading the annual activity and budget areas to develop and submit a robust and affordable 10 year operating costs plan which supports the delivery of outputs;
- providing professional financial oversight of and advice on equipment capability spend, including the scrutiny of business cases taken by the Investment Approvals Board;

JOB DESCRIPTION

- providing professional financial oversight of and advice on equipment capability spend, including the scrutiny of business cases taken by the Investment Approvals Board;
- providing financial information and advice to Commander, Director Resources and Policy, the Board and other senior-level boards and committees and representing the Command in Departmental finance forums;
- providing advice, guidance and leadership to the finance and accountancy community, including on financial skills and finance change programmes;
- leading in-year management, financial plans and scrutiny teams

QUALIFICATIONS

As the head of the accountancy profession, the Chief Accountant must hold a valid CCAB (or equivalent) qualification.
