My client, a leading public sector organisation, is seeking to recruit a skilled Category Manager to join their team onsite in London or York. As a Category Manager, you will be required to lead on, develop and deliver procurement based on lean principles, guarantee procurement proprietary, and ensure 'value for money' is achieved. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in Category Management and hold a MCIPS qualification.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
*Manage the interface between public procurement and construction processes including multi stakeholder processes involving the project manager, QS and internal customer
*Take part in category (construction) relevant training including delivery of training to stakeholders and other procurement team members.
*Manage cost drivers effectively
*Manage relationships with internal category stakeholders and wider government
*Manage and develop key Supplier Relationships to deliver breakthrough performance in cost, service and quality
*Lead the commercial and contractual interaction with suppliers
*Develop and implement the identified category strategies
*Establish and lead cross-functional teams to manage the development and implementation of the category strategy and agree it with the Head of Procurement and internal customer departments
*Develop savings opportunities and benchmarking of industry standards and practices to identify quick win opportunities
*Prepare pre tender and tender documents in conjunction with key user departments
*Use leading practice procurement tools to develop and implement the sourcing strategies
*Deal with all Request For Information (RFI), Request For Proposal (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ) and Service level agreements

Key Knowledge and Competences
*MCIPS or equivalent is required, though being able to demonstrate similar level of expertise through work experience would be considered. A commitment to working towards MCIPS would be expected.
*Experience in using NEC3 terms and/or estates/construction experience. Bravo eTendering, Award and Contract Management System knowledge is preferable.
*Category management experience in the public sector
*Find ways to improve systems and structures to deliver with more streamlined resources
*Regularly review procedures or systems with teams to identify improvements and simplify processes and decision making
*Be prepared to take managed risks, ensuring these are planned and their impact assessed
*Identify a range of relevant and credible information sources and recognise the need to collect new data when necessary from internal and external sources
*Take opportunities to regularly communicate and interact with staff, helping to clarify goals and activities and the links between these and Departmental strategy
*Make effective use of project management skills and techniques to deliver outcomes, including identifying risks and mitigating actions
*Develop, implement, maintain and review systems and service standards to provide quality, efficiency and value for money
*Work confidently with performance management and financial data to prepare forecasts and manage and monitor budget against agreed plans

Travel: Any post based in York would require regular visits to the London office as part of business as usual.
