FTC 6 MONTHS - CAREERS ADVISOR - HASTINGS

Careers Advisor required to provide a full range of information and advice services to clients in accordance with contract requirements and the company's established quality standards; help adults in target groups make effective decisions about learning/work opportunities with a view to entering sustained employment; share organisation's strong commitment to safeguarding and equality of opportunity in both service delivery and employment (the post may entail regulated activities as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 and therefore the postholder will be appointed subject to ISA registration and CRB check).

RESPONSIBILITIES

TOP 4 MAJOR TASKS AND ACTIVITIES:

Provide unbiased careers and skills information and advice services and/or other related services to individual and groups of clients identified in the current IAG business plan according to individual targets as agreed with line manager
Deliver services from various outlets, eg JobCentre Plus and a wide range of outreach/community-based venues across designated area, according to local arrangements
Mentor and coach clients to achieve their goals as required by specific contracts
Develop knowledge of various CV writing styles, interview expectations and careers development packages

Additional Key Accountabilities:
Provide labour market, educational, occupational and other local information to enable clients to make informed decisions
Provide referral support to clients to enable them to implement their decisions, including liaising with opportunity providers in order to provide referral and placing services to clients, adopting an advocacy/canvassing role when required
Develop a personal knowledge of available learning and work opportunities in the local area working closely with supporting agencies in order to ensure clients' needs are fully met
Develop and maintain visible careers and skills information points at delivery locations
Record activities with clients in order to fulfil contractual requirements to deadline, eg SMART Action Plans, and accurate client details on our customer database.
Follow-up clients and record outcomes of interventions in order to assess their support needs and meet MI requirements as required by specific contracts
Prepare reports and MI statistics according to timelines provided.
Attend, deliver and represent the company at Job Fairs and Events across the region.
Ensure that services offered comply with Quality standards set by the Team Manager, Quality Manager and the BCG Quality team.
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective team working
Take part in on-going training and support within timescales set
Undertake such other duties as determined by the Team Manager and Contract Manager as are reasonable and compatible with the post

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS
Degree or equivalent NVQ 3 or 4 in Advice and Guidance or equivalent
Prepared to work towards QCF Level 4 or 6 in Careers Information and Advice

KEY TECHNICAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Good IT/keyboard skills and working knowledge of IT packages
Successful co-ordination and management of a project in an area of work relevant to the role
Undertaken a leading role in co-ordinating and developing work within an area or with a particular client group
Networking, negotiating and advocating on behalf of clients
Ability to work with disenfranchised, low-skilled and disaffected adults, and those whose first language is not English Mentoring and coaching
