Capacity Engineer - IBM Mainframes, Banking, Brussels

OBJECTIVE/BACKGROUND:

You will join the Capacity Management team at this international bank. The team ensures that the capacity of the IT infrastructure (current and future) matches the evolving demands of the bank. Role is to cover the sizing activities in the Capacity Management Process and to provide for that platform 2nd and 3rd level support in case of performance problems.

The Capacity Management process covers the following areas:

capacity planning, demand management, capacity operations, capacity and performance engineering, capacity management infrastructure.

TASKS:

In your role as Mainframe Capacity Management Engineer you fulfil two functions as Capacity Analyst and Capacity Planner.

Capacity operations:

- Daily monitoring of the performance and capacity of the Mainframe systems and services.
- Identification and Investigation of capacity and performance issues.
- Report in a comprehensive manner and propose mitigating actions to the teams in charge of the Mainframe systems or services.

Performance Engineering:

- Participate in developing the Project Business Cases, assess the feasibility of the proposed solution and make recommendations on the Design of Mainframe applications and services.
- Assist in Performance testing, analyse the performance data, propose changes to optimise resource usage and performance.
- Validate Business Requirements and make recommendation on the sizing of the infrastructure.
- Build capacity models to correlate Business Volumes with Resource utilisation and Service levels.
- Take part in writing the Performance and Capacity Test Report.

Capacity Planning and Infrastructure area: you will contribute to the delivery of the Yearly Capacity Plan, Risk Matrix and Monthly Capacity Reports.

This will require an in depth understanding of the Business Drivers and Service Level Agreements on the bank's Mainframe platforms.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

- Mainframes (hardware, operating system, Middleware and frameworks) OR you should have solid experience in Application development with a good technical knowledge of the IBM Mainframe platform.
- experience in capacity management, performance analysis on Mainframe systems;
- DB2, MQSeries and CICS performance and measuring aspects;
- SAS programming.

Nice-to-have Skills:

- Capacity Management expertise on other platforms (IBM AIX, Linux, HP Non-Stop, SAN);
- Ideally you will have worked in the Banking sector or at least a large company/organisation.
