EDUCATION: High School/G.E.D.
This is a Summer position from mid June to mid August.
BASIC FUNCTION:
With immediate supervision, provide a safe, recreational and educational day camping experience for assigned group of campers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Under direction, ensure that the activities of this position and relevant programs are consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities, Diocese of Cleveland.
- Ensure campers are participating in all program areas in a manner that would not cause harm to themselves, others or the environment, making sure campers are never without supervision.
- Be aware of all special needs and concerns of campers and staff.
- Monitor attendance and maintain a daily sign-in sheet as needed.
- Participate in all overnights as scheduled at designated site(s).
- Supervise campers in all camp, and special event situations, at lunch, during sports, and field trips or other areas as assigned.
- Plan and implement a variety of activities that reflect a progression of skills and reflect designated themes.
- Encourage and support other staff members in their job responsibilities.
- Know the risk management plan and act accordingly.
- Organize and distribute meals and snacks.
- Distribute appropriate toys, games and art supplies to children. Monitor usage. Clean up after campers as assigned or as necessary.
- Assist in care, preparation and cleaning of program equipment.
- May accompany children and/or parents, as necessary, on field trips.
- Participate in pre camp staff training. Attend all staff meetings.
- Participate with campers in all aspects of camp.
- Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
- Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School diploma or equivalent with six months to a year experience working with children.
- Previous camping experience a plus.
- Enjoy the outdoors.
- A desire and the ability to work with children outdoors.
- Must work all scheduled work hours and be available for entire camp season. No days or time off will be granted unless pre-arranged prior to start of the camp season.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR or attained through training during orientation.
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be well organized, detail oriented and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to show patience and courtesy when working with people.
- Flexible and good at working in a team atmosphere.
- Good working knowledge of computers and familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
- Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
