CAD Operator

SUMMARY:

- Mechanical Principal CAD Operator
- Commensurate AutoCAD experience is also welcome, and we will expect some measure of training for the qualified candidate.
- Applicants shall be able to work with minimal supervision to provide quality, accurate and timely CAD drafting support for complex mechanical piping designs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Review assigned projects with engineering team
- Provide project research, basic design layout and possible design options, as needed
- Provide project labor estimates for drafting services and create CAD drafting project timelines
- Interface with other design and engineering staff, as required
- Prepare complex CAD mechanical piping drawings
- Create project bill of materials, as necessary
- Prepare final plan sets for delivery of:
- AFB (approved for bidding) drawings
- AFC (approved for construction) drawings
- Final As-Built Records
- Attend meetings with design staff to report on status of project(s)
- Provide on-site field measurements/investigation, unsupervised
- Provide quality review for mechanical CAD drafting work, performed by others, internally and/or externally
- Utilize CAD drafting standards, file management and drafting techniques, prepared by the gas transmission drafting group

SKILLS:

GENERAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- High school diploma
- Minimum of 5 years CAD experience (Microstation V8i/Descartes preferred, AutoCAD background will be considered)
- Firm understanding of plan and section views
- Firm understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel software programs
- General understanding of Microsoft Access database programs
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and personal vehicle
- Must be able to interpret and/or prepare field sketches and photographs
- Must have excellent command of the use of reference files within CAD software
- Must have excellent command of the use of raster images within CAD software
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to manage workload for multiple concurrent projects

MECHANICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical piping experience including firm understanding of welded, flanged and threaded process piping assembly and installation
- Firm understanding of P&ID's (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams)
- Complete understanding of isometric and schematic drawings
- Ability to provide basic design layout for fabrication details
