This is an initial 12 month contract opportunity.Overview
In this Business Analyst (BA) role, you will work with the GIS IT Solutions team and be a part of a team that is accountable for the delivery of IT solutions and support to the GIS community.
Role and Responsibilities
The BA will partner with their service portfolio customer and information service teams to lead the identification and design of innovative valued GIS business system solutions/services. The BA utilizes in-depth knowledge of their customers' business drivers and their domain expertise to deliver significant and measureable business system performance improvements. The BA strategizes, analyzes and collaborates with the solution architects to optimize the value of the IT investment to the business customer and to the company as a whole. The BA is accountable for ongoing (life cycle) business service value monitoring, and execution of targeted improvement programs designed to meet their customers changing business performance requirements. This role requires GIS domain expertise combined with strong strategic and visionary thinking. As a BA you will be expected to be working on multiple projects, small enhancements and managing the strategic vision while at the same time working with the application service advisor to understand operational issues and requirements.
Some of the core responsibilities of this BA include:
Business Relationship Management
- Ensure the business need is understood and that the right services are delivered to meet the current and future (changed) business objectives.
- Develop trusted advisor relationship between IT and key business stakeholders by actively managing client expectations, requirements and satisfaction levels.
- Keep abreast of new or emerging technologies, processes or industry trends and identify and assess potential innovation or improvement opportunities.
- Manage client relationships by stressing business imperatives and alignment with business and IT strategy and architecture.
- Analyze and monitor results of service change, identity and manage risks. Service Portfolio and Demand Management
- Identify opportunities and capture demand for new or enhanced services from early state. Update scope and opportunity definition as demand plan is refined.
- Identify and capture customer patterns of service user and consumption and input to the Demand Management process.
- Review demand pipeline, progress of new projects and release schedule with the business customer.
- Monitor services to ensure they continue to provide value and that service value is optimized throughout the life cycle.
- Influence decisions by informing and advising on innovative approached, domain portfolio investments, service change and direction.
- Identify, review and assess impact of potential business change or architecture changes to service domain portfolio performance. Service Design
- Analyze impact of planned changes (business or service) on value/performance of the service portfolio and ensue new or planned changes add value.
- Develop the service design plan and documents desired service outcome, service acceptance criteria, including service performance, how the service will be delivered, and how it will be consumed by the user, and metrics and measures performance.
- Ensure the operational processes, roles, responsibilities and capabilities to support the new service are defined and documented, including supplier contract.
- Work closely with the portfolio architect and project architects to ensure that solutions are aligned with the GIS technical strategy.
- Ensure that the business data are available and aligned with the GIS strategy.
- Present options, review and verify service design plan with customers and stakeholders and agree on action plan to address. Manage Business Requirements
- Analyze, define and prioritize requirements for delivering the required business needs and service solution.
- Ensure consistency with technology architecture and operational processes required to deliver effective services (capacity, service continuity, security, etc.).
- Ensure that the business has the correct data made available efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure the functional requirements for the desired solution are defined, documented and agreed to by the business customer (sponsor).
Qualifications
- 10+ years of project experience in the capacity of Business/Systems Analyst (some Project Management experience good as well) on IT GIS related projects specific to the upstream oil and gas industry
- 10+ years experience in GIS (with the proven ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of the ESRI software solution; mobile GIS solutions; spatial data management and data services)
- Proven ability to assess business problems and conduct opportunity analysis and solution evaluation
- Skilled in defining and understanding business processes and identifying opportunities for improvement
- Proven ability to assess the business value of a particular problem or opportunity
- Strong understanding of IT Service Management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to develop strong working relationships and influence decisions with clients
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with the business, technical staff and application vendors to foster effective working relationships
- Strong customer service focus with the ability to balance the needs of the individual and/or department with the needs of the organization as a whole
- Solid interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment; share expertise, provide constructive feedback, provide coaching, and contribute ideas to other team members to achieve common goals
- Some understanding of the upstream oil and gas industry
- It would be very beneficial to understand Informatica and FME extract transform load (ETL) technologies as well as GeoCortex
- It would be very beneficial to have an ITIL Certification
