Information technology is ey to commitment to deliver quality and affordable health care to its members. As a result, has 28 PB (and growing) volume of electronic data that needs to be backed up. This data reside in data centers as well as in field offices such as hospitals and medical offices. Our outsourced data center services provider (IBM) conducts the backups on our facilities using hardware and a mix of technologies for SAN and NAS (including virtual tapes and tapes).

We are reviewing our backup and restore (BUR) strategy to leverage the changes in the market and the offerings: the availability of cloud, appliances-based computing and associated backup and recovery options, low cost of WAN (Wide area network) bandwidth, customer-only encryption keys, and a plethora of other technological offerings. The goal of the BUR initiative is to consider and select from a range of options those that are best suited for business need. A program is underway to this end and the Business Analyst is responsible for performing a number of the analysis tasks during both the analysis and implementation phases of the project.

Reporting to the Program Manager, BUR Project, the Backup and Recovery Business Analyst (contractor) will be responsible for performing the business analysis and financial modelling tasks of the BUR initiative to migrate from the current state to the new state.

The BUR Business Analyst will leverage his/her Backup and Recovery subject matter knowledge to perform a variety of tasks, including:
1. Identify and remediate where files are consistently skipped/missed during backups
2. Analyze and update the standard backup exclusions and exclusions lists and determine/validate the server level exclusions lists
3. Work with the application owners to categorize applications by backup class of service
4. Work with the application owners and infrastructure teams to update the corporate systems regarding which Servers support each application (for over 1,200 applications)
5. Work with the application owners to identify which test or development instances require backup
6. Size and cost the impact of proposed changes to BU schedules and BU architectures
7. Determine & initiate (via Work Orders) the infrastructure changes (NIC cards, I.P. addresses, etc.) to support migration to the new BU Classes and Service and BU schedules

Required skills:
1. Strong business and technical analysis skills
2. Backup and recovery knowledge/experience at both the server and database levels in a large scale (3,000+ server) environment, preferably with Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM)
3. Strong verbal and written communication skills
4. Strong Microsoft Excel skills including the ability to build financial models
5. Application development and test experience
6. Experience in working with application development teams in a collaborative fashion
