Job Description:

Seeking a motivated applicant pursuing a career in corporate philanthropy, especially volunteerism to support the Corporate Relations department. Candidate may also support managers responsible for civic sponsorship and grant making.

Candidates preferably would possess education or background in philanthropy, communications, marketing or public relations; excellent project management and communications skills, above average attention to detail, ability to be a self starter and a positive attitude.

Start date (ASAP) with a one year commitment
Competitive compensation; 40 hours per week
Applicant will need to support some weekend and evening volunteer activities.
Position located in downtown Chicago; relocation will not be provided

Responsibilities include:
Assisting with coordination of numerous corporate and neighborhood-based volunteer programs.
Assist with coordination of various volunteer educational initiatives, especially the Stay in School program
Occasionally assist with coordination of sponsorship activities, and grant application and making process.
Frequent coordinating with other departments planning volunteer activities
Maintain and update Intranet and Internet content; using online content management systems
Responsible for monitoring and updating internal volunteer website dedicated solely to tracking volunteer activities
Comfortable working in volunteer databases
Researching business issues, best practices, and industry trends
Handling administrative and other duties as assigned

Required experience:
* Excellent writing, organizational and communications skills
* Ability to multi-task and produce high-quality work under tight deadlines, and at times, under limited direction
* Proven ability to work independently and within a team
Must have a thorough knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft business applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook with MS Project a plus

Preferred experience:
*Non-profit background and/or some volunteer experience
*College degree with an undergraduate degree in communications, marketing or public relations or related field
* Previous internship experience in a corporate relations, communications, marketing or public relations environment is a plus.

High school diploma with minimum of 5 years experience in specific area of expertise. Provide clerical and some administrative support. Utilize PC and Mainframe applications, such as Microsoft Office, Peoplesoft, Time, EERS, and PassPort proficiently. Develop customized reports provided by integrated systems, including Passport, PeopleSoft, Impromptu, etc, and MS Office applications. Use oral and written skills to present information.
