Building Control Surveyor - £30 hour

JOB PURPOSE

- To apply building regulations and associated legislation in pursuance of the Building Control function
- Delivery of an effective and appropriate service to all service users, fairly and without discrimination.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.To administer the Building Control function primarily with a `service to the customer' perspective and accordingly, to meet or otherwise communicate with members of the public, professionals, builders and internal contacts at such times and in such a manner as is necessary to constructively assist those in need of guidance on meeting requirements.

2.To assess deposited plans and specifications for compliance with building regulations and associated legislation, to prepare relevant reports and operate necessary administration procedures.

3.To make appropriate inspections of, and to supervise and enforce building regulations and associated legislation in relation to, certain projects of building work in the Borough, and to prepare relevant reports. Also, to undertake similar activities in relation to unauthorised or contravening building work and dangerous structures.

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL- Possession of, or working towards, BTEC HNC or equivalent in relevant building discipline.

EXPERIENCE - S ignificant experience employed in a Building Control Service or substantial relevant experience in a building environment

DESIRABLE

Degree in a relevant building related subject

Corporate member of a professional body (such as ABE, CIOB)

Working knowledge of current building regulations

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

A good level of Literacy & Numeracy

Sound knowledge of building construction techniques

Knowledge of Building regulations and associated legislation

Ability to learn and develop specialised technical issues in relation to building regulations

Ability to make decisions acting on own initiative

Ability to write reports

Use of computers

Commitment to customer service

Ability to negotiate ladders, scaffolds etc and building site conditions generally
