Brokerage Operations Manager

THE OPPORTUNITY 

The successful candidate will be an expert in the operational activities associated with the offering of brokerage services (trading in secondary market instruments). 

This person is required to lead the establishment, implementation and on-going management of a platform brokerage service (trading in secondary market instruments), which markets investment products through direct, intermediary, advised and Life and Pension channels.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

The successful candidate will be an expert in the operational activities associated with offering brokerage services through similar platforms, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to establish and implement such a service, and also to manage its on-going delivery to market. 

This advanced level of experience and knowledge will ideally have been obtained through the direct personal experience and practical performance of a similar or substantially similar platform role in the past with a major WRAP/Platform.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS 

You will have detailed knowledge and experience of substantial areas of the business expertise listed below:

- Secondary market investment instruments, complex investment instruments (eg derivatives, unregulated CISs, structured products) and the execution venues through which they are traded, and how these are marketed to retail clients through a brokerage platform in accordance with FCA and TCF principles
- Establishing and managing the external 3rd party relationships and also internal inter-departmental relationships necessary for running a platform brokerage service eg
- Brokers and market makers
- Custodians
- Banking function
- Compliance function
- Customer relations function
- Involvement in the analysis, testing and implementation of new platform brokerage technology system infrastructure, working with the Technology department
- Establishing a specialist team to manage operations for the platform brokerage service, and integrating this team into the existing operational structures supporting the platform as a whole.
- Industry standard methods of capturing, executing confirming and settling client orders inbound to the platform, and also outbound bulk-level orders in platform nominee name out to brokers and market makers, and also to banks and custodians
- Processing all corporate actions associated with secondary market instruments at both the platform client and also the bulk nominee level, incorporating a requirement for full understanding of:
- All corporate action types
- The mechanisms typically offered by systems to manage these
- The operational activities which a specialist operational team would be obliged to carry out daily to anticipate, pre-advise, generally prepare for, manage, execute and monitor these
- Managing at both bulk/nominee and client level all aspects of the dividend/income distributions associated with holdings in secondary market instruments, including requirements for pre-determined dividend reinvestment options
- Specifying and managing the delivery, on-going maintenance and periodic audit of all standing and variable data associated with secondary market instruments (including corporate actions data and the intra-day and closing prices required to support the brokerage offering)
- Ensuring that all legal and regulatory obligations (as established with internal and external legal and compliance functions) can be met by the operational infrastructure that will be established (eg best execution, execution allocation, TCF considerations etc.)

Platform People act as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for temporary recruitment, as defined by the Conduct of Employment Agencies & Employment Business Regulations 2003.
