Bio-Informatics Developer

ROLE SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Bioinformatics Developer has responsibilities extending to the development of systems software within Medical Diagnostics.

Additionally, the position may develop distributed software applications for subsystems that enable the business strategic imperatives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop robust bioinformatics software solutions to support Medical Diagnostic activities
Work closely with systems teams in requirements gathering and software design
Interacting with global teams to promote consistency and maximize synergies across common software platforms
Designing and building strong testing infrastructure to minimize dependency on hardware availability
Leveraging DFR for software, Agile and Lean software development methodologies to drive reliability upstream into the product development life cycle

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Master's Degree in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or other related fields
2+ years of technical experience in the software development
Experience with various programming languages such as PERL and/or PYTHON.
Experience of combining knowledge of molecular biology with software engineering to deliver new products
Working knowledge in configuration management tools

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

PhD in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or other related fields
Experience working with "-omics" data sets (NGS, microarray, etc.)
Experience with high performance and/or parallel computing
Experience with statistical programming languages (eg R, MATLAB)
Experience programming in Java
2+ years' experience developing software for complex systems
Experience in software platform, advanced applications, user-interface design and/or systems engineering
Experience in platform and application development
