One of our clients, a multinational pharmaceutical company, currently requires a Bio-informatician.
Location: South of Brussels
Duration: 12 months
Start date: ASAP
FUNCTION DESCRIPTION:
This person will be able to use state of the art bioinformatics tools to analyze and interpret DNA sequence data obtained by NGS (NextGen Sequencing) instruments,
with the aim to inventorize the full DNA content of some eukaryotic cells, focusing in particular on their content in viral and any foreign genetic material.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess and quantify the quality of cell sequence data, build a comprehensive and not redundant reference database of all known viral sequences,
set up a robust and validated methodology to assess the content of any total eukaryotic cell DNA in viral/foreign material,
and translate that methodology into a computing pipeline.
PREREQUISITES:
Education:
PhD (preferred) or MS in bioinformatics or computer science, or biology + additional degree in bioinformatics
Knowledge:
- Basic background knowledge in molecular biology
- Public sequence databases, their content and organization
- Bioinformatics tools for fast sequence comparison (Blast, Blat )
- Programming/Scripting languages (C++, Java, Perl, Python )
- Linux proficiency
- English speaking fluency
Experience:
We expect the candidate to be experienced in relevant bioinformatics tools, a familiarity with NGS data sets and associated tools is a plus.
