New Directions Education are currently seeking a bilingual (English and Mirpuri) teaching assistant to cover a maternity leave in a primary school in the Saltley area. You will provide extra support to the class teacher within the classroom. The role would suit an individual with previous knowledge of working within mainstream schools across Birmingham. We are looking for applications from individuals who have a can do attitude towards their work and can offer both one to one support and team support to pupils within a mainstream school working within key stage one (KS1) and key stage two (KS2).

The school is easily accessible by private or public transport and is a five minute walk from the local shops and amenities. The school caters for nursery, infant and junior children. Majority of the children and parents speak both Mirpuri and English so you must ensure that you can both speak and understand Mirpuri as a additional language, The school is in the heart of Birmingham and equal opportunities is delivered to create a warm and friendly working and teaching environment for both staff and pupils.

The school requires a bilingual teaching assistant that can fit in well with other team members and communicate effectively with pupils and parents on all levels and with all abilities. You must be level 3 qualified and have a proven record of working in schools whether paid or on a voluntary basis . Duties of a Teaching Assistant

Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the Head Teacher, SENCO and Class Teachers;
Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress;
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities;
Assist class teachers with maintaining student records;
Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
