Currently we are looking for a Big Data Engineer, to join our client's team in Zurich

Overview:

A leading global bank requires an experienced software engineer with recent exposure to open source Big Data technologies to join their project team, to help deliver, maintain and support their growing platform. The platform serves multiple areas of the bank, including some very exciting and cutting-edge projects, with board-level sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

-

Engineering of data pipelines (primarily batch, increasingly intra-day/near-Real Time)
-

Integration and evaluation of new big data and data science technologies
-

Development of platform components
-

Consultation to application groups on how best to utilise the platform and technologies
-

Engagement with groups for PoCs and full platform on-boarding

Challenges Contractor will be facing in this role:

-

The platform and its hosted projects are very high profile with board-level sponsorship
-

The data hosted in this environment is sensitive and security awareness is paramount

Essentials Skills and Qualifications:

-

Strong programming background in Scala, Java or Python
-

Strong command line and Scripting experience in a Linux environment
-

A strong sense of ownership and initiative
-

Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking ability
-

Experience with Spark, HDFS, Hive, and the Hadoop ecosystem (ideally with exposure to Cloudera CDH/EDH)

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

-

Experience with relational DBs as well as NoSQL/NewSQL options like HBase & Cassandra
-

Exposure to Python data science ecosystem, eg Jupyter
-

Good understanding of issues inherent to distributed/clustered systems
-

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
-

Excellent problem solving and multi-tasking ability

A strong sense of ownership and initiative

Finance and banking knowledge is not required but would be beneficial.
