Bid Manager is required for a leading global defence company based at Boscombe Down working within the Air Division.


For assigned bids, takes ownership of delivering bids to the Customer, including development of the bid management plan and solution strategy, leadership of the bid team, management of the review and approval programme. Contributes to bid management direction and leadership for the business. As a senior support specialist will develop and lead in own speciality, supporting bids at all levels.


- Manage the delivery of small and medium-sized bids within required timescales
- Compile the offer document based on input from the technical team (technical solution), project managers (cost and schedule), commercial team (appropriate terms and conditions) and the Sales Lead;
- Work with the team to ensure that the solution matches the requirement, identifying Risks (with appropriately defined mitigation strategies), Assumptions, Dependencies and Exclusions; appropriately defined mitigation strategies), Assumptions, Dependencies and Exclusions;
- Ensure resources and facilities are available to meet the requirement;
- Manage Bids through appropriate gate reviews which may include arranging Independent Design Review, Hazardous Activity Scrutiny, Other Works Approval, control of Third Party Information, Proposal Review and Business Case Review;
- Manage bids through the appropriate gate reviews including preparing all necessary documentation;
- Liaise with the Project Manager to ensure efficient and effective Transition to Delivery;


- Accountable for producing and delivering bids that lead to profitable contracts;

- Provide verbal and written reports to management and the customer community.


- An appreciation of project and bid management eg establishing requirements, preparing costed research/work proposals, risk management and project finances including estimation, forecasting and cashflow;
- The people management skills required to effectively lead and contribute within a project or bid team;
- Be well organised, able to deal efficiently with a number of activities in parallel with good attention to detail;
- Ability to work with limited supervision to tight timescales;
- Good communication skills; confident and articulate in all communications - face-to-face, phone and written;
- The ability to collect information from necessary sources and to collaborate with people who possess the necessary information;
- A good understanding of MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel. Some knowledge of MS Project an advantage.
