Automation Test Engineer - Newcastle - Jenkins, jUnit, Cucumber, rspec, Selenium

Square One are looking for an Automation Test Engineer to come on baord for a 3 month rolling contract based in Newcastle paying market rates.

As an Agile Test Engineer you will work within a scrum team to comprehensively test the Digital products being developed to help ensure that they are of market leading quality. Agile Test Engineers are hands on, working in partnership with software developers to develop both manual & automated test suites. You will implement a testing approach within the sprints that will provide an effective level of assurance before regular service releases. Test driven development and increased test automation are essential to this goal.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with service/product managers & business analysts to ensure that user needs for the new digital services are fully understood and that user stories contain effective, actionable acceptance criteria.
- Identify test cases that are suitable for automation and work with the Agile Test Manager, developers and architects to define the approach to automated testing
- Write automated acceptance tests that can be integrated into the software build process.
- Investigate and evangelize new approaches to automated software testing, taking into account the continuously changing Digital landscape and how this impacts our products.
- Organise and perform manual tests when automated approaches are not possible.
- Develop a multi-faceted approach to testing, ensuring that services function correctly on multiple devices, including desktop, mobile, tablet, games consoles and other commonly used ways of accessing digital services.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:
- Experience of agile software development and testing methods
- Experience of automation testing
- Demonstrable understanding of test driven development approaches Proven ability to code in at least one programming language, and rapidly learn other tools & languages
- Detail-oriented: able to document and follow detailed instructions within test scripts and defect tracking documents
- Experience of testing software across multiple web browsers and devices.

Desirable:
- Experience automated testing tools (eg Jenkins, jUnit, Cucumber, rspec, Selenium)
- Experience of web testing tools (eg selenium, webdriver)
- Experience working as a QA, test automation engineer or software developer in an agile project
- Experience of Back End programming languages such as Java, Scala, Python, Ruby, C#

This is a 3 month rolling contract based in Newcastle paying market rates
