The Mechanistic and Investigative Toxicology department is looking for a highly motivated senior associate scientist with a strong background in high throughput screening as well as cell-based assay development to join our team in Beerse.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will:
Execute genotoxicity & cytotoxicity screening
Responsible for lab logistics & request handling
Secure high experimental & data quality
Data interpretation
Report writing and communication requestors, deliver data in a timely manner
Transfer established assays to automation to build efficient, semi-automated HT screening
Develop, validate and implement cell based assays under limited supervision
Work collaboratively with scientists to explore toxicity issues in mechanism-based assays
Transfer established assays to automation to build efficient, semi-automated HT screening
REQUIREMENTS
Considerable knowledge and practical experience of aseptic technique, culturing of mammalian cell lines (adherent and suspension) and bacteria.
Knowledge of assay development.
Be familiar with the use of automation and HTS instrumentation.
Strong interest in toxicology.
A good understanding of the operational processes in a drug discovery environment related to lab facilities, equipment, safety and data management.
Be required to handle BSL2 agents and cell based assays in accordance with Janssen's EHS policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicant should hold B.SC or M.Sc in life sciences, preferably in cellular biology/molecular biology.
Productive experience in a high-quality academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
Ability to rapidly learn and apply techniques and strive for technical perfection.
Flexibility (tolerate changes in priorities/directions).
Demonstrate a sense of urgency (self-motivation), and adhere to timelines.
Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a high collaborative team environment.
Communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing
