Associate Scientist Bacterial Vaccines - Pharmaceuticals

ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST BACTERIAL VACCINES/LEIDEN, NETHERLANDS/11 MONTHS CONTRACT/30 TO 50 EUR (PER HOUR).

The Bacterial Vaccines department focuses on the research and development of vaccines against infectious diseases. Within the Bacterial Vaccines department, the preclinical immunology group evaluates the immunogenicity and efficacy of potential vaccine candidates against infectious diseases in animal models. The main focus of the group is to conduct proof of concept studies and to generate appropriate scientific data that enable our vaccine candidates to progress towards clinical phase evaluation.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a motivated Associate Scientist, who loves challenges, to evaluate the immunogenicity and efficacy of potential vaccine candidates. The focus will be on bacteriology and immunological techniques such as bacterial culture, ELISA, western blot, IgG purification and functional antibody assays such as neutralizing, serum bactericidal and opsonophagocytic assays.

Work will be performed under supervision of a Senior Scientist. Work will be performed under BSL2 (vaccination may be required). The Associate Scientist will be responsible for the performance of assays, analysis and reporting of the results.

Good skill in documentation, evaluating and reporting results are required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Master degree (MSc) in a relevant discipline such as biology, life sciences, or related fields or HLO. Open to PhD level as well, if candidate is open to a hands-on function.
- Must have professional working experience in a lab (must be more substantial than internship(s) only)
- Previous experience working with bacteria and/or immunological methods (eg bacterial culture, western blot, ELISA, OPKA or SBA) is preferable.
- Previous experience in a pharmaceutical environment is advantageous.
- English is a must
