ASSOCIATE LAB SUPPORT TECHNICIAN needed for a CONTRACT opportunity with Yoh's client located in THOUSAND OAKS, CA

THE BIG PICTURE - TOP SKILLS YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

- Lab experience - does not matter if biology or chemistry, just that the person is comfortable in a lab setting with proper attire including gloves, glasses, lab coat.
- Informatics - Mainly looking for someone comfortable with Windows and Excel.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

- Under general supervision, a Lab Support Associate prepares cell culture and fermentation media, purification buffers and analytical reagents.
- Responsible for the preparation, sterilization and dispensing of cell culture and fermentation media, purification buffers and analytical reagents, documentation and other duties involved in the operation of process development laboratories.
- Compiles batch records of prepared media, buffers and reagents in electronic laboratory notebooks, maintains laboratory equipment, laboratory notebooks and monitors supplies.
- General knowledge of laboratory procedures especially aseptic technique is required.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

- Experience creating simple Excel macros is helpful.
- This work will be a combination of Excel, SharePoint, and a custom application named "Mosaic". (Mosaic and SharePoint will probably not be on the resume.
- Unless the person worked in compound management for another pharmaceutical company, they would not have any experience with Mosaic - we can teach that easily. Unless they worked in a large company, SharePoint will also be missing from the resume.)
- Strong communication skills - The person will be interacting with multiple scientists in person and via email.
- Mistakes made during the transfer process will make it impossible to find material and/or result in incorrect classification.
- These problems may take years to be discovered.
- The Research Materials Management (RMM) group is adding capabilities to centrally manage biological research substances (cells, proteins, nucleic acids, ) to our existing collection of small molecules.
- Over a million small tubes of material are in lab freezers and freezer farms around the world.
- While not all of this material will be transferred to us, the transfer and logging of material is a significant effort and is beyond current staff workload.
- Once the bulk transfer is completed the maintenance effort can be determined.

BONUS POINTS! OTHERWISE KNOWN AS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- A degree in life sciences with coursework focused on fermentation, purification, cell culture or microbiology is preferred.
