Associate Food Scientist - Product Development

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Supports the Product Development Productivity teams in testing and implementation. Works closely with Product Development team to create protocols designed to test Productivity opportunities, as well as scoping of new Productivity ideas.
- Supports all steps through project implementation, tasks include but are not limited to: Gum/Candy making; Product testing; Coordinating sensory/consumer testing; Coordinating analytical testing (both internal and external); Coordinating and reporting on shelf life studies; and Specifications updates
- Participates in the commercialization of confectionery products
- from product design to production in the plant.
- Performs product design activities such as flavor screenings, laboratory prototype development, scale-up validation, and packaging development.
- Works with Process Development, Regulatory, Production and Quality colleagues in the development and documentation for new products, as well as exploring ways to improve the efficiency of current products.
- Makes lab-made prototypes for internal or external testing
- Manages the stability program
- Conducts sensory testing roundtables
- Collects plant data during trials and analyzes results
- Keeps the lab inventories up to date and the lab in hygienic condition
- Develops lab Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and training videos
- Performs lab analytical tests

SKILLS
Must have a degree (Food Science or related field preferred) with some (1+ years) experience in industry. Strong computer-based skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are essential. Must have the ability to learn the company's internal computer systems such as the specifications system and LIMS. Good interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) are required, as well as strong attention to detail & being a self starter. Excellent organization and problem-solving skills are required, along with the ability to multi-task.communication skills Must have solid technical and critical thinking skills, a high attention to accuracy and detail. Must be flexible and adaptable, hands-on, creative, and an innovator.
