Associate Chemist

Seeking an individual with a background in chemistry to be responsible for the site's chemical inventory management system. Will also be responsible for managing wastes, both hazardous and non hazardous, for the site. Additionally, will be cross trained on other functions in the R&D Services Department.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Along with site EHS representative, lead the site's initiative to comply with new GHS labeling requirements
- Lead an effort to investigate and implement best practices related to inventory control, including the use of CISPro for generating required regulatory reports, auditing the site's chemical inventory accuracy, and managing the volume of flammable liquids at the site to comply with all NFPA and IBC code regulations
- Insure that all chemical substances entering the facilities are logged into CISPro before being delivered to the user
- Insure that current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are present in CISPro for every material in the site's chemical inventory Insure that up-to-date backup paper copies are kept in a central location
- Manage the site's hazardous waste program, becoming RCRA certified
- Strong involvement with safety programs and initiatives
- Serve as a backup to other members of the R&D Services Department

SKILLS:

- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field
- 2 years of experience in chemical inventory management, CISPro system preferred
- Knowledgeable of new GHS regulations
- Demonstrated experience leading projects
- Experience working with teams to share decision making in order to develop problem solutions
- Strong attention to detail required
- Strong safety skills
- Ability to function in a high pressure environment and ability to multitask
- Knowledge of RCRA regulations and practices preferred
