Assistant Scientist - Strain Development

ASSISTANT SCIENTIST - STRAIN DEVELOPMENT/LEIDEN, NETHERLANDS/11 MONTHS CONTRACT/24 TO 38 EUR (PER HOUR)

THE ROLE

The strain development subteam is looking for an Assistant Scientist (Technician) to support the design, production and characterization of bacterial cell banks for vaccine antigen production. The Assistant Scientist is responsible for cell bank preparation as well as characterization work. Focus of work includes microbial (bacterial) culture, DNA and/or protein isolation, immunological assays within the molecular microbiology field. We are looking for an individual who is able to do routine work in the context of development, is flexible and adaptable to new tasks related to discovery, and is able to support other (sub)teams. Importantly, a mindset for proper preparation, execution and documentation of experimental activities is essential.

LOOKING FOR THE FOLLOWING EXPERIENCE:

- Bachelor-level - microbiology or biotechnology, or similar
- Experience or relevant internships
- Culture of bacterial pathogens (Biosafety level II)
- Bacterial phenotyping and genotyping
- Molecular microbiology - bacterial cell fractionation, nucleic acid and protein isolation and characterization
- Flexible and proactive research attitude
- English language - communication and documentation
- Strong work accuracy
- Easily adaptable to new lines of work, projects etc.
- Team player
- Good organization skills. We are looking for a quality minded person.

- Experience with genetically modified organisms
