Assistant Professor

The Department of Cell Biology and Human Anatomy at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. UC Davis is a campus of 29,000 students, ranked 16 th in the nation for extramural research funding, with exceptional strength in the biological sciences. The campus is situated in a University town, and is renowned for its highly collaborative environment.

Candidate must hold the Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree, and should have a minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience, during which she/he has built a record which documents research creativity, independence, and productivity. The successful candidate will be expected to 1) build and maintain a high quality, extramurally-funded research program, 2) achieve excellence in the teaching of medical and graduate students, 3) provide service to the University and academic community at a level commensurate with his/her career stage, 4) contribute to the maintenance of a collegial and collaborative academic environment.

UC Davis is home to the Center for Vision Sciences, with more than 50 investigators engaged in the study of the Visual System, and has recently opened a state-of-the-art Institute for Regenerative Therapies geared toward the therapeutic application of stem cells. The most competitive applicants for this position will have demonstrated research productivity in areas which build on either or both of these strengths. This is broadly interpreted to include individuals studying the fundamental mechanisms responsible for regulating growth and differentiation, interactions between cells and their environment, mechanisms by which cells assemble correctly into tissues, and strategies for the development of therapeutic intervention.
