The Program in Neuroscience and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, is seeking a full-time faculty member to teach graduate courses, supervise graduate student research, and conduct a focused program of research. The program is the oldest of its kind, originating in 1979. Currently the program trains about 50 - 60 MS level students with strong prospects for the development of a doctoral program.

Qualifications: Applicants should have an earned doctorate in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology or related field, and a record of excellence in research with significant publications in the field. Applicants should have a record of teaching at the college level and/or demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at the graduate level in a college of education.

Research Area: Applicants should have a specific interest in applying knowledge and methods of neuroscience to the theory and practice of learning and education. Research focus should be in an area that can be applied to educational settings, such as math, reading, or writing, or should focus on basic cognitive skills such as memory, attention, executive function. Candidates might also focus relationships between social and neuro-developmental factors in predicting educational readiness and outcomes. Candidates should have either a record of external funding or have a strong potential for such funding in the near future.

Responsibilities: The full teaching load for faculty at Teachers College is four graduate courses a year (2+2) with the possibility of course reduction with external grant funding. Courses are offered in various areas of Neuroscience and Education, including methodological courses relating to data collection and analysis in brain imaging, eye tracking, EEG etc. The successful candidate will conduct and supervise research in areas of interest and expertise, advise master's and doctoral students, and provide service to the Program, Department and College. In particular, the candidate should show a strong interest in helping to develop the Neuroscience and Education program in new and exciting directions.
