ASSISTANT MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT - EDINBURGH - 3 MONTHS

Our EDINBURGH based client has a fantastic opportunity for an ASSISTANT MANAGEMENT ACCOUNT for an INITIAL 3 MONTH CONTRACT.

The successful candidate will be required to assist in the Management Accountant in delivering internal reporting requirements: in particular providing high quality, relevant management information for strategic and operational purposes whilst ensuring compliance with relevant legislation (for example - Freedom of Information, International Finance Reporting Standards).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Support senior managers and Directors in their financial management responsibilities: including month end reporting, budget monitoring and preparation, review and submission of financial/business plans.
- Provide specialist advice to senior managers, budget holders and Directors on strategic and operational issues; including capital accounting, VAT compliance, budgeting, forecasting outturns, financial planning and risk management.
- Support Capital Accounting; including the rolling programme of valuations, profiling of capital budgets, capital budget requirements and balance sheet classification.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory annual report; in particular completing the PPE note (circa £1bn), revaluation reserves, assets held for sale, leased creditors, payroll creditors and VAT.
- Manage the administration of the Agresso Budgeting Module ensuring budget (circa £370m) is categorised and devolved accurately in conjunction with Directors and Finance Managers.
- Assist in the development of accurate and relevant management reporting utilising management information (currently Agresso). This will include collaboration with both the Management Accountant and Financial Accountant to produce timely and relevant management reports to senior managers and budget holders

QUALIFICATION:

- Part qualified CCAB (or CIMA) Accountant, or AAT (or similar) qualified.
- Knowledge of public sector reporting: including budgeting, financial management and capital accounting.
- Experience of critically analysing business planning and financial information. Driven with the ability to challenge and drive business improvements
- IT literate with experience of using a Windows based financial system and as a minimum, have intermediate Excel skills (pivot tables, vlookups etc).
- Accomplished people management skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of contacts and positively influence others to achieve desired results.
- Ability to interpret and analyse financial date and apply excellent decision making and problem solving techniques when necessary.
- Proactive with the ability to work individual, to lead and be part of a team.
- The skills and knowledge to understand problems and communicate solutions quickly and effectively.
