AS400 / I-Series Application Specialist - Carlisle - up to 39k

My client are a large manufacturing and logistics company based in Carlisle, Cumbria. They are currently recruiting for an application support analyst to work with their AS400 / os400 / I-Series systems on a permanent basis.

Knowledge & Experience

Primary

* Proven experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software solutions.
* Working knowledge of OS400 operating system, CL and RPGILE for IBM i-Series/AS400.
* Knowledge of change management practices.
* Practical knowledge in importing data for use in reporting tools and spreadsheets.
* Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, process flow analysis and data processing flowcharting.
* Ability to create requirements specifications in both technical and user friendly language.
* Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
* Hands on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
* Ability to create operations procedures in both technical and user friendly language.

Secondary

* Knowledge of logistics would be advantageous.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Server 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP Pro operating systems.
* Working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, internet technologies and electronic file transfers, including firewalls, routers, IP, FTP, email, web portal, XML, CSV and TXT.
* Ability to conduct research into EDI issues.
* Knowledge of Microsoft VBA for Excel.
* Knowledge of using SQL syntax.
* Knowledge of data capture technologies e.g. Barcode Scanning.
* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
* Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
* Good project management skills.
* Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks.
* Ability to absorb new ideas and concepts.
* Ability to conduct research into a wide range of systems issues as required.
* Strong documentation skills.
* Highly self motivated.
* Keen attention to detail.
