AS400 COMPUTER OPERATOR

1 YEAR+ CONTRACT

The Computer Operator reports to the operations Shift Lead and the Operations Team Lead. The Computer Operator is responsible for overall computer operations and meeting production batch schedule SLA's. The operator must ensure that operational environments are running at peak efficiency, complete production batch schedules, and take all necessary measures to meet specified availability and performance service levels.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

- Monitor the operation of all operating system platforms running in the data center with limited direct supervision. Currently this is mostly AS400 systems. This may include an IPL of one of the AS400 systems using the operations master console and following documented procedures.
- Monitor online systems running on OS/400 to ensure that availability meets the established Service Levels.
- Monitor with limited supervision the batch flow of all scheduling systems in the data center to ensure their respected job schedule is completed within the processing window.
- Follow standard escalation procedures for incident/problem tracking and resolution.
- Contact vendor service personnel when hardware failure demands immediate action.
- Interact with support personnel on problem resolution.
- Perform Intel based server reboots for node down condition when requested.
- Document new and updated operating procedures in the proper repository.
- Administer the data center access process workflow which involves reviewing and then approving or rejecting data center access requests.
- Send out data center facilities alerts for certain maintenance activities and severe weather following documented procedures.
- Adhere to all IT policies and procedures, including but not limited to safety, quality, and financial goals.
- Inform Shift Lead of problems encountered during shift. Document in the daily journal and verbally turn over to next shift any issues or problems that may have occurred.
- Recommend and implement process/procedure improvements that will increase efficiency or improve consistency of services.
- The operator will support Disaster Recovery procedures and testing schedules.

REQUIRED SKILLS

- AS400 OS, plus the ROBOT Scheduling System
- Good written and oral communication
- PC working knowledge

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS

- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Office: Excel spreadsheets, MS Word

ACCOUNTABILITIES

- The operator will have daily contact with various IS technical and programming personnel worldwide.
- The operator will have occasional contact with business personnel.
- The operator will be working with and accountable for hardware and software required for completion of the daily information systems needs of the varied Bayer business groups.

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:

- Ability to work in a 24x7x365 environment within a small team.
- Occasional overtime and shift work is expected to fill in for vacations/sick time

SHIFTS:

- Tuesday - Saturday 4:00 P.M. - 12:30 A.M. (for the first few weeks during orientation and training, the candidate will be expected to work M-F 8 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.)
