Applied Physicist or Engineer in Computing
FUNCTIONS
Your activities will include:
- Provide maintenance and support for CernVM-FS, addressing any issue associated with the deployment of new versions of the operating systems, compilers and/or Kernel versions.
- Exploit further the potential of the CernVM bootloader technology to build virtual machine images.
- Improve the tools to create and manage clusters in deployments of CernVM in cloud environments.
- Further develop the software framework used to manage machine clusters used in volunteer computing applications.
- Follow data preservation activities led by the experiments.
- Design and implement a data provenance system.
- Supervise and co-ordinate tasks in the domains relevant to the CernVM project.
- Create and maintain effective links with the relevant groups using the project deliverables.
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
Master's degree in the field of computer science, physics, engineering, or closely related fields, or equivalent.
THE EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POST IS:
Demonstrated experience in:
- Tools and methodologies that support all phases of the life cycle of a modern software project, in particular, design, coding and testing.
- The design and implementation of large scale distributed storage systems and with related concepts such as replication and caching, distributed hash tables and failure modes in networked systems.
- Virtualization technologies, creation and contextualization of virtual appliances; this includes mastering of Linux internals, such as the Kernel and common system services.
THE TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR THIS POST ARE:
- Programming/software development
- Usability requirements analysis: proven ability to identify relevant use-cases and design/provide adequate solutions.
- Emerging technology monitoring: proven ability to identify hardware and software technologies and products relevant for the project.
