Application Support Analyst - Hedge Fund £450/day

My prestigious Hedge Fund / Financial client is seeking a contractor to join their London team for an initial 3 month contract (there may be potential to extend).

Role: Support Analyst

The role involves the provision of 2nd line support for IT based trading platforms with an aim to proactively prevent and resolve issues that may impact the service.

The ideal candidate will posess a broad skillset covering application support with some exposure to Oracle databases.

Key Responsibilities:

* Suse Linux and Oracle technologies
* Provide technical advice and risk assessment based on knowledge of application and database
* Ensure that all operational responsibilities are performed
* Develop an understanding of procedures and SLAs for all services supported by the team.
* Proactively identify operational risks and provide short term solutions whilst tracking long term resolution
* Ensure service is in compliance with security policies.
* Provide effective escalation and resolution of issues and problems
* Manage the implementation of change without adverse impact to continuity of service, adhering to existing change processes
* Identify and implement operational improvements
* Reduce the number of recurring technical issues
* Ensure changes are correctly impacted and implemented
* Develop an understanding of how all the interfaces the team supports and how they interact
* Providing expert knowledge of application and database

Candidate Background and Skillset

* Linux experience
* Application knowledge and experience preferably gained within a mission critical support environment
* BASH scripting (this is a bonus it is NOT essential)
* Oracle SQL experience
* Some experience of Control-M, HP Openview, Subversion, Jira would be preferred(this is a bonus it is NOT essential)
* Degree Educated (preferably in an IT discipline)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven ability to share information and work individually or as part of a team to solve problems
* Understanding of the importance of business process
* Some knowledge of Capital Markets of working in financial industry would be preferred.
* ITIL qualification preferred but not essential
