The Key Deliverables & Responsibilities, relationships and the required Knowledge, Skills & Experience for a Solution Design Specialist in the Solution Design team are listed below. To aid project delivery and to maximise work efficiency, it is expected that the specified solution design consultation services are available on-site as and when required at the University during business hours.

Key Deliverables & Responsibilities:

- Liaise with the Business team including but not limited to the Project Owners, Project Managers, Business Analysts and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to perform technical analysis of the problem domain and derive the Scope of a Solution.
- Identify preferred solution options for new systems and enhancements to existing systems and produce the Solution Design documentation. The exact level of detail of the Solution Design documentation will be dependent on the project and nature of the solution and may include High-level design, Detailed design and Infrastructure, Network & Deployment documentation.
- Liaise with the Enterprise Architecture team and the Solution Design team to ensure that the proposed solution is in adherence to industry and organisation architecture & design principles, standards and strategic roadmaps.
- Analyse existing systems, technologies and data, and select suitable software packages, infrastructure assets and technologies as-required for a Solution
- Provide time and effort estimates on the design of the proposed solution.
- Mentor technical teams and provide technical leadership as required during the delivery phase of the project.
- Maintain a high standard of Customer Service to internal and external users.
- The ability to work effectively on multiple projects.
- The ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Key Relationships:

- Work closely with internal ICT teams to ensure that captured business requirements are effectively translated into the Solution design and implemented accordingly.
- Work with the user groups to plan and review User Acceptance Testing procedures to ensure product delivery interpretation can be tested to meet the business requirements
- Provide regular updates to management on progress, and issues if any, against planned deliverables.
- Maintain good relationships with key stakeholders.
- Recommend actions to assist in the success of the end to end business process improvement.
- Take directions and guidance from the Project Manager in the carrying out of duties to ensure a consistent and professional delivery of service to the business.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

- Experience in designing highly scalable, high availability and high throughput transaction based systems using architectural/design styles such as multi-tiered architecture, service oriented architecture and event driven architecture across the full technology stack including network, server, Middleware and persistence.
- Experience in documenting high-level and detailed solution designs to address the concerns of different stakeholders.
- Experience with relational databases, particularly Oracle and MySQL.
- Experience with a variety of server, operating system and Middleware platforms.
- Experience with a variety of storage and network devices and topologies.
- Experience with a variety of security technologies
- Experience with software development platforms and frameworks.
- Software development experience.
- Ability to translate user needs into a technical solution.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate within cross functional delivery teams, management and other program stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strong customer service focus
