Application Architect

The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the high quality performance of project activities relating to the organization's cyber security initiative to comply to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Cyber Security Rules. Project tasks may include planning, designing, building, maintaining, and operating in a secure network infrastructure at a nuclear location. Potential travel.

DUTIES:

- Perform, document, and assist in planning work activities relating to projects, sub-projects, or processes.

For Projects:

- Analyze requirements, then design, build, and test IT software solutions in accordance with IT project management standards.

For operations/application maintenance:

- Provide technical consultation to IT Cyber Security personnel relating Desktop and Servers.
- Provide analysis and impact assessments of planned design activities (future modifications) to the Cyber Security infrastructure design.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Project Manager.

SKILLS:

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline and typically 7 to 10 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in configuring PCs and Servers with a detailed understanding of security configurations.
- Hands-on experience developing and implementing Visual Basic and or .NET applications.
- Ability to enumerate final execution details from project work breakdown structure and/or requirements documents and document all work efforts.
- Knowledge of Networks and Active Directory.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal).
- Familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office 2010 software suite.
- Ability to work independently and work effectively with customers by e-mail, instant messaging (IM), phone and in-person.

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

- Knowledgeable with Local Area Network (LAN) Technology and family of Ethernet and VPN, IPSec, and L3 Firewalls.
- Knowledge of/experience with application whitelisting.
- Solid experience evaluating security technologies and solutions in support of the acquisition and deployment of security software, systems, and services.
- Ability to work with all staffing departments to assimilate technical guidance and incorporate it into plans and procedures.
- Solid capability to assess application and web architectures and operating systems for vulnerabilities and develop appropriate security countermeasures.
- Knowledgeable with database technology and platforms to be able to organize, store, and find files easily.
- Working knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to demonstrate analytical skills, technical knowledge, and practical application of cyber and information security principles to business leaders and technical staff.
- Experience communicating with all levels of staff, including senior management and project teams.
- Ability to assist the project manager in refining granular technical procedures and plans and procedures, especially testing, and conduct testing or supervise testing.
